彼の５枚目のアルバム
「Bang Or Ball」 に収録されています。
彼が Cash Money Records と契約して発表した最初の作品。
90年代の West Coast 色の強いギャングスタラップをやっていた彼が
南部勢力の中心だったCash Moneyと組んだことで生まれた
“スタイル転換期”の作品。
メインプロデューサーは Mannie Fresh が務めています。
フィーチャリングにはアイスキューブにダブシー。
要はウェストサイド・コネクションの曲ですね。
跳ねた南部バウンス系ドラムに
スネアはやや軽めで
ハイハット刻みは細かくなく空間を活かすリズムは
完全に Mannie Fresh 型。
西海岸G-Funkのような音は使われていません。
そんなトラック上で
盟友たちが繰り広げるマイクリレーは圧巻の一言。
3人の中では WC が一番ビートと噛み合っている印象。
フックはブッチが歌い上げます。
曲の終盤には
N.W.A – Niggaz 4 Life のフレーズも引用されており
音のサンプリング以上に
「思想」がサンプリングされているように感じます。

【G-Rap】 Mac 10 – Connected For Life
This time, I’m introducing a fairly major song in Gangsta Rap.
It’s a track by Mac 10, born in Inglewood, California — best known as a member of the super-group Westside Connection.
“Connected For Life“
feat. Butch Cassidy, Ice Cube, WC
It was released in 2001 through Cash Money Records and is included on his fifth album Bang Or Ball.
Because this was released under Cash Money, Mannie Fresh handled the production. The featured artists are Ice Cube and Butch Cassidy — basically it feels like a Westside Connection track.
The track uses bounce-style Southern drums, with a slightly light snare and hi-hats spaced to give the rhythm room — totally in the Mannie Fresh style. It doesn’t use the typical West Coast G-Funk sound.
Over this beat, the tight mic relay delivered by his allies is simply stunning. Among the three rappers, WC seems to fit the beat the best. And the hook is powerfully sung by Butch Cassidy.
Near the end of the song, there’s even a quote from N.W.A – “Niggaz 4 Life”, and it feels like not only the sound but also the ideas are being sampled.
The promotional video is also worth watching — from Mac 10’s braids to WC showing off his signature C-Walk, it’s just straight-up cool.
For fans of Gangsta Rap, this is definitely a song you shouldn’t miss.
