当時のシカゴといえば
ハードコアなストリート路線が多かったのですが
そこに西海岸 G-Funk のメロディアスな要素と
ニューヨークのマフィアラップを織り交ぜた世界観が特徴の作品です。

Today’s spotlight goes to Jiggs & Cheeks, a gangsta rap duo from Chicago, Illinois, and their track “Give It To You.”
The song appears on their 1999 release The Don, issued through Riff Raff Records. For collectors and fans who dig deep into late-’90s Midwest G-Rap, this album has built a strong reputation over the years. Interestingly, it also stands as the duo’s only full-length release.
When people think of Chicago rap from that era, the first thing that usually comes to mind is a harder, street-oriented sound. Jiggs & Cheeks took a different route. Their music blends that Midwest grit with melodic West Coast G-Funk influences and even incorporates touches of New York-style mafioso rap, creating a unique atmosphere.
“Give It To You” is a great example of that approach.
The track samples the classic 1985 R&B song “If You Were Here Tonight” by Alexander O’Neal, drawing heavily from its emotional and melodic qualities.
